If a Tenant is living on Government Land under tenancy for more than 40 years , is he eligible to claim possession of that land?

If the possession is under tenancy under the government, then in that event you do not have any right to sell the property, nor you are eligible to claim possession as owner of the property. If otherwise you are in illegal possession of the property and you are continuously enjoying the same for a period of thirty years, then your enjoyment over the property becomes perfect and you become eligible for enjoying it as owner. You can seek a declaration in that respect from the court of law. The relevant provisions are contained in section 25 of the Limitation Act 1963.
